It’s all a dance — we just don’t always hear the music. Here’s some “found” solo and group performances from The Window caught over the last two years:
“Honor your partner / Oh promenade / Get all stirred up / Like lemonade…” - Box the Gnat
“We pull and we push push/ Gimme some of that crush crush / Don’t do it, don’t blush blush / Badness is good stuff” - Make Me Shake (Gimme Some Crush Crush)
“Boys ‘n toys ‘n noise / Girsl ‘n pearls and twirls…” - SXYLV
“Massive ballerina, on the dark stage / Pirouettes for millennia, starred arms out / Awaiting a hero / Only to embrace endless night, and absolute zero.” - Massive Ballerina
“From ground control to lost control / Ballet to battle, halo to hole…” - Mrs Major Tom
“Shuffle, bubble, jack, boogaloo and krump / Caper, jive, cavort, locomote and strut!” - Shangha Masai
“I want to technogogo in Tokyo / And boogaloo in Timbuktu…” - Da Riddim Griffin
“Come swing with me, let’s make it last / You’ve got to know that slow is the new fast” - Slow Is the New Fast
“That groove is beautiful / scratch it, and bleed musical” - That Groove
-NOTES:
- The person in the last image isn’t dancing, or even “dancing”, but is included here because he is, I just found out from a collector, a principal dancer for the National Ballet of Canada. His name is Siphesihle November. The second last image were two women literally belting out “Singin’ In the Rain” during a torrential downpour at 1 am. The fourth photo (the Sufi dancers) was created using AI text-to-image (using my crosswalk as a reference photo) because hey it’s 2023.
- All the captions are lyrics from real songs. “Box the Gnat” is an electronic square dance; “Make Me Shake” was used in the Degrassi TV show for a stripper scene; “SXYLV” is a dance track sung by a horny A.I., while “Massive Ballerina (Pirouettes for Millennia)” is sung by a melancholic A.I. “Da Riddim Griffin” features a guest appearance from the Tokyo-a-GoGo Cheerleading squad; “Slow Is the New Fast” is a jazz-rap track that also has the lyrics “Love is the new pain / Modesty the new vain / Clarity the new misunderstand / Woman, the new man” apropos for the times. Finally, “That Groove” is just a fun dumb dance song.
- As always, every shot was taken from a single location — one window overlooking an intersection. More images in the 24/7/365 photo project at my site HERE (where if you poke around you’ll see some weatherworks, genetically modified paintings, etc.)
Wonderful stuff!
