“Here come the future, cool like silicon
Here come the future, hot like the sun”*
A pair of photos from the series “The Window” (which is a year-long look at the velocity, diversity and humanity of the modern metropolis).
Across the series there are superheroes, soldiers, swat teams; dogs in wheelchairs, robots on crosswalks, hockey players on unicycles, influencers on balconies... Helmets, hajibs, turbans, cowboy hats, fedoras, durags, tiaras… Wheelchairs, 28 wheelers, walkers, EVs, shopping carts and Lamborghinis… Tech lords, dumpster divers, celebrities, construction workers, musicians…

All the photos are taken from a single unique location, but the aggregate collection is a mashup of documentary photography, surveillance footage, portraiture, drone shots and tableux painting — the photos in this post are a couple black and white examples. The micro-moments captured across the images form a composite portrait of this larger ephemeral moment (early 21st century, post-pandemic, pre-metaverse, etc.)
Other works by K.I.A. — installations (ephemeral, distributed, destroyed by half); sculptures (recombinant, aging, shifting); and paintings (genetically modified, kirlian, palimpsested etc) can be seen at the site too: www.nu4ya.com
