TL; DR: Oops, influences, or archetypes?
Decisive Moment:
Art never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme (to remix Mark Twain’s quote about history). None of the images from The Window (24/7/365/1 photo series) included in this post were consciously made to reference other artworks — in fact they couldn’t have been, as all the photos in the project capture spontaneous moments of real people, in unpredictable ephemeral situations, occuring on the street below.
The image above rhymes with the famous “Behind the Gare” photo by Cartier-Bresson. The suspended-in-air jump, the ripples in the water, but most fortuitously, even the ladder rungs in the Bresson photo are repeated here by the crosswalk stripes.
The man immediately below is a Greek statue (snapped as he danced on the street in the sheet; see Cicero). Below that are a few more photos that rhyme with other well-known artists or artworks — leave a comment at if you see a connection to something specific…
